Come see an alt-country legend and support the development of another D.C. story. Urban Idyll Theater is proud to host a very special house concert with Dean Schlabowske of the Waco Brothers, Ramblin’ Deano and His Enablers and Wreck. Schlabowske is collaborating with D.C. playwright Richard Byrne in the creation of a new musical called Congressman Davy. The book and lyrics are by Byrne and Schlabowske is writing the music.

Congressman Davy is a show about Davy Crockett’s time as a Congressman in the “Washington City” of the 1830s. Sure, there’s politics in it. The fractious battles of Democrats versus Whigs. But it’s also a show that celebrates the fierce competing visions for our nation’s capital, and the thriving commerce and horserace journalism of a city built on government. (And, yes, built on a swamp as well.)

Schlabowske will play Waco Brothers hits, as well as tunes from his own songbook. He will also preview a few of the numbers from Congressman Davy. Tickets are $30. Admission includes refreshments and a chance to win a copy of the Legacy Records reissue of Uncle Tupelo’s classic No Depression – with Byrne’s liner notes.
